May 1, 2010 – 105 Recordings Limited, an innovative music company, announced today that their launching a new artist-friendly record label, which will allow artists to keep their copyright, with records to be distributed by REDEYE Music Distribution in the U.S. and licensed for territories around the globe.
The new record company will be distributed digitally with all artists splitting the net profits along with them having a “physical option” to be distributed the traditional way to brick and mortar retail outlets as well as with the traditional royalty structure. 13 year old R&B recording artist Odjkni Simmons (Seattle, WA), and tradition soul group MCFADDEN who represents Bronx, NY are the first to sign to the company. Although specifics details have not been released, the new company’s policies look set to place emphasis on the digital distribution of music and may see release plans similar to Radiohead‘s 2007 album ‘In Rainbows’, which fans could choose how much to pay for when downloading it.
Lloyd W. Sutton, President of 105 Recordings Limited and architect of the new record company, said, “This is an amazing opportunity for 105RL to be a part of a new music business model that shifts power back to the artists and shifts the focus back to the music itself. There is no better way to gauge music than to do it digitally today and this is one of the best ways to give our music a chance to be heard in this tough marketplace. I think the possibilities are endless now that we can find fresh ways to develop support and break great music and the talented artists behind that music.”
“This innovative record label model built by our team at 105RL gives its artist/bands the most viable ways to be heard all over the world. They are progressive thinkers whose artist-oriented approach is not only empowering the creative community; it is the most cost effective way to make money in this industry today. The 105 Recording Limited brand has embraced the landscape of distribution today rather than looking at the difficulties plaguing today’s music business, the entire company is poised for the future,” Suttons adds.
The label model created for the entire company is the latest in a series of deals by 105 Recordings Limited that is reengineering entertainment industry distribution. Its goal has always been to strengthen common interests between the artists and the recording companies. As a consequence of these deals, 105 Recordings Limited has evolved into a unique, new type of label with the capacity not only to digitally distribute music artists, but to also produce market and promote physical CDs all over the world. A number of those groundbreaking deals have been supported by REDEYE, one the world’s fastest growing independent music distribution outlets.
The new music company will be housed in Atlanta, Georgia with office space and full use of the resources at the SoapBox Recordings Studios main office in New York City.
